Tuning in to Kids® Parenting Program

In the past, parenting programs have tended to focus on quite cognitive level ‘behaviour management’ practices, missing crucial elements like felt safety, attachment, emotions, meta-emotions (i.e., how we feel about feelings!), parental wellbeing and capacity, realistic expectations (of children and ourselves as parents), and the ongoing need we all have for co/regulation across the lifespan. Tuning in to Kids® is different.

Tuning in to Kids® is an evidence based parenting program created by Professor Sophie Havighurst, Ann Harley, and Dr Christiane Kehoe from the University of Melbourne, developed to specifically address the unique emotional needs of children and their parents, and improve parent-child relationships, by teaching emotion coaching skills to help families manage conflict and strengthen connections throughout childhood and beyond.

Tuning in to Kids® is a 6 x 2hr session parenting program for parents of children aged 3-12 years

Would you like to:

  • Be better at talking with your child?

  • Be better at understanding your child?

  • Help your child to manage their emotions?

  • Help prevent ‘behaviour problems’ in your child?

  • Teach your child to deal with conflict?

Tuning in to Kids® shows you how to help your child to develop emotional intelligence. Children with higher emotional intelligence:

  • Have greater success with making and keeping friends

  • Have greater concentration at school

  • Are more able to co/regulate when upset or angry

  • Tend to have fewer childhood illnesses

It is never too early or too late to invest in yourself and your family relationships.

If you are concerned with your child or young persons emotions, behaviour, relationships, or capacity to cope day-to-day, Tuning in to Kids® is a great way to build your confidence to relate with, and support, them.

Jessica offers Tuning in to Kids® individually and in groups, in person and online.

The Tuning in to Kids® programs are run in person in Bathurst, in the Central West of NSW, by Jessica Smith, Psychologist, Board Approved Supervisor, and mum of two. Jessica is passionate about supporting children and families from preconception and beyond. Through her years of training and experience supporting children through to adults, including couples and families, Jessica deeply appreciates how family relationships and how emotions are supported day-to-day influences psychological wellbeing later in life. Hence, why Jessica is committed to offering these evidence based, emotionally and relationally focussed Tuning in to Kids® programs workshops locally.
