Attachment Focussed EMDR Therapy

While the Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy developed by Francine Shapiro is very much evidence based for single incident, big T trauma, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is not always fit for purpose for people who have experienced Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), developmental, little T, or attachment based trauma in their childhood or teen years. Hence, why Jessica sought out and trained in Attachment Focussed EMDR Therapy developed by Laurel Parnell.

AF EMDR Therapy is different to EMDR Therapy with its:

  • Strong emphasis on client safety

  • Focus on establishing a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist

  • Client focus, always adapting the support to the individual client in the room

  • Resource tapping for repairing development deficits, as well as preparing the client for the later phases of EMDR therapy

  • Modified EMDR protocol, which emphasises a greater focus on attunement than the standard EMDR protocol

Jessica has been supporting people with early life and complex developmental trauma for over 10 years. As such, Jessica confidently prioritises her clients sense of safety, comfort, and autonomy throughout the therapeutic process, integrating other methods as indicated (e.g., Schema/Parts lens, play or art based methods).
