Bringing Baby Home Workshops
In Australia, we are becoming increasingly invested in informed conception, pregnancy, and birth experiences. There are so many great resources within our community, including though not limited to:
Local Hospital Antenatal and Feeding Classes
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists
Private Midwifes and Lactation Consultants
Local Doulas
A similar level of investment and support, post birth and in the transition and adjustment to parenthood and family life has sadly been lacking to date. As the sayings go, when a child is born, a mother, a father, parent/s, a family are also born.
You and your new family are worthy of support, for birth and beyond.
The Bringing Baby Home (BBH) Workshop, developed by John and Julie Gottman, is a 2 day psychoeducational workshop that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for babies and children by supporting their parents and strengthening their families.
The goal of BBH is to equip you, the expectant or early years parents, with the knowledge and skills to effectively cope with the various changes and difficulties that occur during the first three years after your baby is born, and beyond.
In our highlight-reel culture, it can be hard to know what is ‘normal’ or ‘typical’ in terms of early parenting, which BBH helps to counteract with evidence based information, resources, and practices within a supportive group setting.
In the BBH workshop, you and your partner will learn how to:
Strengthen your friendship
Increase intimacy and affection
Work through conflict with greater ease
Maintain relationship satisfaction
Reduce hostility
Create positive parent-child interactions
Ensure quality involvement for both parents
Reduce the incidence or severity of postpartum mood disorders
Not only will this program teach you what to expect during the transition to parenthood, it will also help you do things like:
Better understand child development
Create co-parenting strategies with your partner
Improve the way you and your partner communicate, connect, and compromise
Recognize signs of postpartum mood disorders and gain awareness of support options
BBH is an evidence based workshop which supports you beyond the birth, and is equally impactful for expectant parents and parents of young children alike.
The earlier we invest in new families, the more likely families are to thrive over time.
The Bringing Baby Home Workshops are run in person in Bathurst, in the Central West of NSW, by Jessica Smith, Psychologist, Board Approved Supervisor, and mum of two. Jessica is passionate about supporting children and families from preconception and beyond. Through her years of training and experience supporting children through to adults, including couples and families, Jessica deeply appreciates how early experiences of attachment and life events influence psychological wellbeing later in life. Hence, why Jessica is committed to offering these evidence based and attachment informed BBH workshops locally.
If you are ready to be supported, informed, and to practice these life enhancing skills in a small group setting (up to 8 parents), you are encouraged to express your interest below.
